Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress best well-known for her role as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC TV series Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Her parents had divorced and she relocated with her mother into Los Angeles. The year 2001 was a difficult one for her, but despite difficulties with money she managed to land her first major performance in the video online show Rachel's Room in the role of Rachel's Room's principal character. The TV film Murder in Greenwich that she appeared in, where she portrayed 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination of a Young Artist Award. Grace Rutherford was the main actress in Lost in its two initial seasons. In 2004, she won the Screen Actors Guild Award with the entire ensemble. After leaving the show, Grace wanted to appear more prominently in film having been cast as the opposite of Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She appeared as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken 2008) in Suburban Girl and the Jane Austen Book Club. She played the same role as Kim Mills in Taken 2 and Taken 3 (both 2012). Grace played Shannon once more in the show's final episode and two other episodes. In 2013, she appears in the episode Californianation of the 6th Season. She portrays Faith who's both an avid stargazer as well as a socialite. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. Being part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she is the daughter and elder sister to the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She started her acting career in the teen years with minor roles in several of her father's films and appeared alongside her brother in the cult favorite Donnie Darko (2001). Later, she was on the screen in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal received critical acclaim for her performances as the lead in the erotic romance comedy Secretary (2002) and the drama Sherrybaby (2006) each of which earned her an Golden Globe Award nomination. Following several commercially-successful films, like World Trade Center in 2006 her fame grew in the role of Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). She was nominated as the best supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her role of a single mother in Crazy Heart. The roles she played in subsequent films include Nanny McPhee as well as The Big Bang and Hysteria. Other roles are as an agent for Secret Service in White House Down 2013, as a singer for Secret Service in White House Down 2013. She also appeared as a vocalist in Frank 2014 and as a singer as a singer in The Kindergarten Teacher 2018, where she portrays the title character. Gyllenhaal composed and directed her first feature film, The Lost Daughter in 2021. The drama about psychological issues won the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for be awarded the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
